From Mortar to Mask: Your Questions Answered on Navigating USP <795>, <800> & NAPRA Model Standards in Nonsterile Compounding

Following the tremendous response to our March webinar, Melanie Dorey and Kedar Patel are returning to continue the conversation around nonsterile compounding.
 
Attendees submitted more questions than we could address during the original program, so this follow-up session will revisit some of the most frequently asked questions, expand on topics that deserve a deeper discussion, and provide additional practical guidance for pharmacy professionals.
 
Hosted by Michael Myers, the webinar will feature an extended conversation with Melanie and Kedar, along with opportunities for attendees to submit new questions.

What you'll take away:
  • Decontamination focuses on removing hazardous drug residue from surfaces. Deactivation aims to make a drug inert, but effectiveness against one drug should not be assumed for every drug handled.
  • A repeatable cleaning process should address both routine cleaning and hazardous drug residue, with added attention after spills or suspected contamination.
  • Remove residue from reusable tools while they are still in a containment enclosure before carrying them to a sink. The specific two-pass process discussed by the speakers is a recommended practice, not a verbatim standard.
  • Choose cleaning agents and protective apparel with evidence for their intended use, and check compatibility with equipment, surfaces, and plumbing.
  • Use facility-specific assessments and, where appropriate, hazardous drug wipe sampling to evaluate whether controls are working.
